The International Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) will recognize the Honorable Charles. E. Ramos, senior justice for the Commercial Division in New York County; Ruby Asturias (EY Law Guatemala) and Lauren D. Rachlin (posthumous) at the 2019 NYSBA Annual Meeting on Monday January 14.
Judge Ramos will receive an award for Distinction in International Law and Affairs, which honors outstanding efforts in the area of international law, recognizes those who have contributed to international peace, understanding, and democracy.
“Judge Ramos has shown a keen interest in cross-border matters and has taken a leadership role in that area,” said William H. Schrag, Chair of the International Section. “We are proud and honored to recognize this outstanding jurist.”
Ramos was appointed to the bench of the Civil Court of the City of New York in 1983 after being a senior partner at Benedict Ginsburg and Charles E. Ramos. From 1988 through 1993, Ramos served as an acting Supreme Court justice and supervising judge of the Civil Court in New York County. Ramos was elected to the Supreme Court in 1993. He has served as a Commercial Division justice in New York County since 1996.
Ms. Asturias and Mr. Rachlin will receive the Championing Ethical Practices Award at the International Section Luncheon. Both were instrumental in helping develop the groundbreaking Ethics Best Practice Guidelines for Latin America and the Caribbean that was endorsed by NYSBA earlier this year.
